Promises and promises – do they have the stamina to defend a democracy

How many times have we been told that America and its allies would provide money for weapons so that Ukraine could better defend itself against the Russian conqueror?

Ukraine already for months had insufficient ammunition. For months, President Volodymyr Zelensky asked the West to assist his country with arms so that it could defend itself against Russia. The previous months it looked like aid from Ukraine’s US and European allies dried up.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has cranked up his war economy to churn out weapons and ammunition, topped up with supplies from Iran and North Korea.

Indifferent to the scale of Russian casualties, and under little domestic pressure, Putin’s counting on a war of attrition to force Ukraine to submit.

That presents a clear challenge to Biden and European leaders — do they have the stamina to defend a democracy from an enemy intent on destroying it?
