Since October 7, Israel has insisted that it has a right of self-defence against Hamas in Gaza. This is designed to bolster the Israeli narrative and give the regime diplomatic ‘cover’ to commit any crime it wishes in Gaza.
But even when we are Jews, we may not be blind to what the Netanyahu regime and the extreme right colonists have been doing already for several years. First of all, they build a wall and checkpoints to divide Palestinians from Israelis. After the Hamas attack, the IDF did not mind shooting innocent children, and medical staff, as well as bombing ambulances and hospitals. The international ministers or world leaders could see the mass atrocities that happened in the Gaza strip, but did not seem to react severely against Israel. Not many protested against the actions of the Israeli army or came up for the protection of the vulnerable, and of accountability for perpetrators.
UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese warns that
“Israel cannot claim self-defence against a threat that emanates from the territory it occupies”.
Badly enough, we have to conclude that as with the war during the breakup of Yugoslavia, the UN once again seems to be powerless and does little to actually act. In the conflict with Ukraine, too, they seem to be powerless and, as now, with the war that Israel is waging against Hamas, there is a lot of discussion, but little concrete implementation.
The UN’s current inability in addressing the intense conflict, raises concerns about its parallels with the historical failure of the League of Nations along with other member states.
One might not forget that the defence must not itself amount to cruel excess,
as where a punch is answered with a dagger blow.
In the law of tort and delict, self-defence is a defence against a civil action for assault
Common sense should tell us that, nevertheless, the lie is repeated ad nauseam by Israel’s sympathisers among the MPs in many countries. In several countries, some groups call themselves “Friends of Israel”, often a club of evangelicals or fundamentalist Christians who would love to see themselves in Israel, by the knowledge that Jerusalem is going to be the capital of the Kingdom of God. But we should know and be aware that it are false ‘prophets’ who have not the God of Abraham as their god, but a three-headed god, the Trinity. They also aim to have us to accept that Trinity as our god, which we will not let happen.
The Zionists and lovers of Israel who are not willing to see what is against human rights should start opening their eyes. Such groups make it for us difficult to come openly on the streets, wearing our Jewish symbols or clothes. Because for others, we then are a matter of mockery. When others recognise us on the street as Jews we get all kinds of ugly things called to our heads and sometimes thrown to us. Anti-Semitism has increased enormously because of those ardent supporters of the Israeli government. The reaction of the pro-Israeli supporters provokes violent reactions from pro-Palestinian protesters and people who want to shave all Jews in the same vein as Netanyahu. Instead of those Jewish haters investigating the matter better and realising that not all Jews agree with what is happening in Gaza now.
It is clear that we have come into a period when idolatry is rampant again. The secular Jews in the Israeli government encourage fundamentalist Jews to put “land” and “ownership” above man and human rights. They want to believe that it is an honour to take land from the Palestinians and declare it as Jewish land. Nor do they see any point in doing this on the Sabbath, or in continuing the deadly violence in Gaza, on a day the Adonai has revealed as a day of rest and day to be of peace.
In any case, we must conclude that the whole gang, IDF, seated heads of government in Israel and the settlers, are doing many offences against the mitzvot of our Supreme Lord.
Fortunately, anti-Semitism here in Europe does not seem to be as bad as we hear reports from our brothers from the United States. Recent polls, like one conducted in December by The New York Times, show that young voters are deeply disappointed with Biden’s handling of the war on Gaza. They demonstrate greater solidarity with Palestinians than with Israelis and, in part, motivated by their dissatisfaction, they appear less inclined to support him in the 2024 elections. But going for Trump would be an even bigger disaster, giving the fascists and Neo-Nazis right of way.
Governments will have to do everything they can to properly inform the rapidly growing extreme right-wing voters and not let their politicians gain the upper hand over the exclusion of dissenters than the Trinitarian Christians.
